How to use the A23D Asset Importer Add-on for Blender

The A23D Asset Importer enables you to download assets directly from the A23D website into your Blenders scenes. It adds an A23D Bridge panel to track download and import progress, choose a custom asset folder, adjust import behavior, or import an A23D asset from disk.

Installing the add-on

Visit the Blender integration page.
Download the latest version of the plugin compatible with your Blender application.
Keep the downloaded .zip file. You will install this file directly in Blender.
Open Blender.
Go to Edit > Preferences.
Open Get Extensions.
Use the menu in the top-right corner and choose Install from Disk.
Select the downloaded A23D Asset Importer .zip file and install it.
Make sure A23D Asset Importer is enabled.

After installation, open the 3D View sidebar with N, then select the A23D tab. The A23D Bridge panel appears there.

Downloading assets with one-click

Open Blender and keep the A23D Bridge panel visible in the A23D sidebar tab.
If the panel says Connected, Blender is ready to receive assets.
On the A23D website, open the asset you want to import.
In the Software dropdown, choose Blender.
Choose the resolution you want.
Click Send to Blender.
Return to Blender. The A23D Bridge panel shows the asset as it downloads, unzips, and imports into the scene.

Browser permission

When you click Send to Blender, your browser may ask to allow access to apps on your device. Click Allow so A23D can connect to the A23D Bridge in Blender. If you skipped it, open site settings for www.a23d.co, allow Apps on device, reload the page, and try again.

You can also manually add https://www.a23d.co:443 to your browser's list of allowed sites to access Apps on device. This setting can be found at:

Chrome — chrome://settings/content/loopbackNetwork
Edge — edge://settings/privacy/sitePermissions/allPermissions/loopbackNetwork
Brave — brave://settings/content/loopbackNetwork
Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions → Device apps and services

Safari may not always complete one-click sending because of its local app connection behavior. If that happens, use Chrome or Edge, or download the asset and use Import from disk.

Import behavior options

The Settings section also includes import behavior options:

Apply texture to selected applies imported material to the active material slot of the selected object. If this option is off, imported materials are added to the scene but not applied to any objects.
Place model at 3D cursor places imported models at the current 3D cursor position. If this option is off, imported models are placed at the world origin (0, 0, 0).

Using multiple Blender windows

Only one Blender window receives website imports at a time. If you have more than one Blender window open, click Connect in the A23D Bridge panel of the window you want to import into. That window becomes the active receiver. Other open Blender windows will show as not connected until you click Connect in them.

Choosing a custom asset folder

In the A23D sidebar tab, open Settings and set Asset Folder if you want website downloads saved to a specific location before import.

You can choose a folder path there. Leave the field empty if you do not need a custom location.

Importing an asset from disk

Use Import from disk when you already have an A23D asset package on your computer.

In Blender, open the A23D sidebar tab.
Click Import from disk in the A23D Bridge panel.
Select the A23D asset file you want to import.
Confirm the import. The add-on imports the asset into the current scene.

You can also open the same disk importer from File > Import > A23D Assets.

Uninstalling the add-on

Go to Edit > Preferences, find A23D Asset Importer, and remove or disable the add-on.
