How to use Unreal Engine Asset Importer Plugin

A23D Unreal Engine Asset Importer addon provides a one-click import functionality for 3D models and PBR Textures into Blender without losing any data. You can easily access this plugin from the Contents tab in Unreal Engine Editor.

This guide shows how to download, install and use this addon. Follow these steps to download the add-on, properly install it in your Unreal Engine version and use it to import assets. Imported assets are organized in folders to help you use them easily in our scene.

Downloading the plugin

Visit our Plugins page using this link and download the latest version of the plugin compatible with your installed Unreal Engine version.

The downloaded ZIP file will have multiple options for Operating System and Unreal Engine versions. Choose your desired option from the folder structure.

You can install the plugin in two ways:

1) Project Level

You can install the plugin for each specific project.

  1. Go to the root folder of your project and create a folder with the name Plugins. image
  2. Copy and extract the A23D plugin files inside this folder. image
  3. Launch your Unreal Engine, and go to the Plugins section of the Unreal Editor. This can be found in the Edit menu. Search for A23DAssetImporterPlugin in the search tab in the top right corner.
  4. Click the checkbox next to the plugin to enable it, and then restart Unreal Engine if prompted. image
  5. You can now access the plugin from the Contents tab inside the Editor.

2) Engine Level

You can install the plugin for each installed version of Unreal Engine.

  1. Locate the folder where you have installed your Unreal Engine version.
  2. Unreal Engine is usually installed at these locations and it stores all plugins at the following locations:
  • C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_[version]\Engine\Plugins on Windows
  • /Users/Shared/Epic Games/UE_[version]/Engine/Plugins on macOS
  1. Copy and extract the A23D plugin files inside this folder.
  2. Launch your Unreal Engine, and go to the Plugins section of the Unreal Editor. This can be found in the Edit menu.
  3. Search for A23DAssetImporterPlugin in the search tab in the top right corner.
  4. Click the checkbox next to the plugin to enable it, and then restart Unreal Engine if prompted.
  5. You can now access the plugin from the contents tab inside the Editor.

Locate the A23D Asset file/folder which you want to import into Unreal Engine from your computer. Click the Select Folder button from the bottom right corner and the assets will be imported into your project file. image

The assets are imported into folders to help you locate them and use them in your project. On the root of your project’s content folder, you will see an A23D folder. Inside this folder there are two main folders 1) 3D_Models and 2) PBR_Textures. All your imported assets go into these folders. image
