How to use A23D PBR Textures in CLO3D

This guide explains how to apply A23D PBR texture maps to fabrics, trims, and garment graphics in CLO3D using the Object Browser and Property Editor material controls.

Support note: CLO's fabric material system exposes PBR-style controls for base color, normal, displacement, opacity, roughness, reflection, and metalness. For exact final output, verify the material in CLO's V-Ray render view, not only in the realtime 3D garment window.

1. Download and Extract the Texture Set

  1. Sign in to your A23D account.
  2. Browse to the texture you want to use.
  3. In the Software dropdown on the asset page, select CLO3D. A23D automatically delivers the texture set in the format best suited to CLO3D (PNG maps) - no manual format selection required.
  4. Click Download, save the .zip, and extract it to access the texture files.

2. Select the Fabric or Object Material

  1. Open your project in CLO3D.
  2. In the Object Browser, open the Fabric tab.
  3. Select the fabric, trim, or graphic style you want to edit.
  4. In the Property Editor, expand the material properties.
  5. For fabrics, use the Front, Back, and Side tabs when each side needs different material settings. Turn off Use Same Material as Front where separate back or side maps are required.

3. Load A23D PBR Texture Maps

In the selected material's properties, load the A23D maps into the matching CLO controls:

CLO Material PropertyA23D MapNotes
Base Color MapA23DTEX_Albedo.pngBase color / diffuse appearance of the fabric or surface.
Normal MapA23DTEX_Normal.pngAdds woven, leather, grain, stitch, or surface detail without extra geometry.
Displacement MapA23DTEX_Height.pngAdds fabric thickness or bumpiness where the material and render settings support displacement.
Opacity MapA23DTEX_Opacity.pngUse for lace, mesh, cutouts, transparent prints, and alpha-masked material areas.
RoughnessA23DTEX_Roughness.pngControls gloss response. Use CLO's invert option only if the visual result behaves like glossiness instead of roughness.
MetalnessA23DTEX_Metalness.pngUse for metallic trims, hardware, foil, and metal-thread effects. White areas render as metallic.

4. Adjust Scale, Repeat, and Color

  1. Use the texture size, repeat, and transform controls in the Property Editor to match the material's real-world scale on the garment.
  2. For prints or fabric maps with several colors, open CLO's Texture Editor from the More icon next to the map. Use it for layer edits, recoloring, repeats, opacity adjustments, and saving revised texture images.
  3. Preview fabric behavior under the lighting and render mode you plan to use. The realtime 3D garment view is useful for layout checks, but final material fidelity should be checked in the V-Ray render workflow.

5. Use A23D Decals as CLO Graphics

  1. Go to Materials > Graphics > Graphic (2D Pattern) or Graphic (3D Pattern).
  2. Select the A23D decal or graphic image.
  3. Click the target garment pattern in the 2D or 3D window.
  4. In the Add Graphic window, set the width, height, and position.
  5. In Graphic Properties, classify the graphic as Print, Logo, Embroidery, or Wash as appropriate. Use Blend with Base Fabric when you want the graphic to inherit and blend with the base fabric's PBR maps.
