How to use A23D 3D Models in Enscape
This guide explains how to import A23D 3D models into Enscape's Custom Asset Library so they can be placed in Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, Archicad, or Vectorworks scenes. If you are working directly in SketchUp and want editable SketchUp geometry, use the A23D SketchUp Asset Importer instead, then render the SketchUp scene with Enscape.
1. Download and Extract the Model
- Sign in to your A23D account.
- Browse to the asset you want to use.
- In the Software dropdown on the asset page, select Enscape.
- A23D automatically delivers the model in the format best suited to Enscape custom assets (
.gltf) - no manual format selection required.
- Click Download and save the
.zipto a known location on your computer. - Extract (unzip) the archive to access the
.gltfmodel,.binfile, and texture folder.
2. Create an Enscape Custom Asset
- Open your host application and launch the Enscape Asset Library.
- Go to the Custom Assets tab.
- Click the Add or + button to create a new custom asset.
- In the Custom Asset Editor, click Import Geometry and select the extracted A23D
.gltffile. - Set the source units to Meters if prompted. A23D models are authored at real-world meter scale.
- Review the preview. If the asset is too dense for real-time use, download a lower-LOD version where available or reduce the mesh before import.
3. Assign Materials
Automatic material import is still worth checking, so inspect the asset materials before saving:
- Select each material in the Custom Asset Editor.
- Load the A23D PBR texture maps into the matching channels:
- Albedo:
A23DTEX_Albedo - Normal / Bump:
A23DTEX_Normal - Roughness:
A23DTEX_Roughness - Metallic:
A23DTEX_Metalness - Opacity:
A23DTEX_Opacitywhere needed
- Save the custom asset and generate a thumbnail.
4. Place the Asset in the Host Scene
- Return to the Enscape Asset Library.
- Select the new custom asset.
- Place it in your Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, Archicad, or Vectorworks scene from the host application's Enscape asset placement tool.
- Start or refresh Enscape. The A23D model appears in the real-time Enscape viewport.
5. Scale and Visibility Checks
If the model appears at the wrong scale:
- Reopen the Custom Asset Editor and verify the source units.
- Check that the placed asset is on a visible layer/category in the host application.
- Refresh or restart Enscape if the host scene has not synchronized.
