How to use A23D 3D Models in D5 Render

This guide explains how to import 3D models from A23D into D5 Render for real-time architectural visualization.

1. Download and Extract the Model

  1. Sign in to your A23D account.
  2. Browse to the asset you want to use.
  3. In the Software dropdown on the asset page, select D5 Render.
  • A23D automatically delivers the model in the format best suited to D5 Render (.fbx) - no manual format selection required. Keep the .fbx file and texture files together because the model references its dependent files.
  1. Click Download and save the .zip to a known location on your computer.
  2. Extract (unzip) the archive to access the downloaded model package.

2. Import the Model into D5 Render

Method A - File > Import

  1. Open D5 Render and start a new scene or open an existing project.
  2. Go to File > Import from the top menu.
  3. In the file browser, navigate to your extracted .fbx file and click Open.
  4. D5 Render processes the file and places the model in the scene.

Method B - Drag and Drop

  1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the extracted .fbx file.
  2. Drag the file directly into the D5 Render viewport.
  3. The model imports and appears at the scene origin.

Method C - D5 Asset Library

Once imported, D5 Render can save models to the Local Asset Library:

  1. Right-click the imported model in the scene and choose Add to Library.
  2. In future projects, drag the model from the D5 Asset Library panel directly into the scene without re-importing.

3. Materials and Textures

When the FBX imports, D5 Render may create initial materials from the model's material slots, but you should verify the PBR maps manually. Imported model packages often need their material maps loaded or checked after import.

  1. After import, select the model in the viewport or Scene List.
  2. Open the Properties panel and choose the material slot you want to inspect.
  3. Click the material thumbnail to open the Material Editor.
  4. Confirm that Base Color, Roughness, Metallic, Normal, AO, and Height/Displacement use the matching A23D maps. If any slot is empty, click the slot and navigate to the texture in the accompanying texture folder.
