How to use A23D PBR Textures in Lumion
This guide explains how to apply and configure A23D PBR texture maps within Lumion to achieve realistic, physically based material rendering.
1. Download and Extract the Texture Set
- Sign in to your A23D account.
- Browse to the texture asset you wish to use.
- In the Software dropdown on the asset page, select Lumion. A23D automatically delivers the PBR texture set in the format best suited to Lumion (PNG maps) - no manual format selection required.
- Click Download, save the
.zip, and extract it. You'll find:A23DTEX_Albedo.png- Base colorA23DTEX_Normal.png- Tangent-space normal mapA23DTEX_Roughness.png- Surface roughnessA23DTEX_Metalness.png- Metallic valuesA23DTEX_AmbientOcclusion.png- Ambient occlusionA23DTEX_Height.png- Height / displacementA23DTEX_Opacity.png- Opacity (where applicable)
2. Open the Material Editor
- In Build Mode, select the model or surface you want to edit.
- Click the Materials tab.
- Click the object's surface to open the Material Editor.
3. Choose Material Type
- To use one of Lumion's built-in presets, browse the Materials Library and select a category.
- To create a custom material using your A23D PBR textures, click the New tab to start with a blank material.
4. Load A23D Texture Maps
- In the Settings section of the Material Editor, locate the texture inputs for the material channels.
- Click the empty texture thumbnail next to the channel you want to edit.
- Import the appropriate map from your downloaded A23D texture set.
| Lumion Shader Parameter | A23D Map to Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Color / Albedo | A23DTEX_Albedo.png | Load into the Color Map or diffuse texture slot. |
| Ambient Occlusion | A23DTEX_AmbientOcclusion.png | Optional. Multiply into the base color externally, or load into an AO-capable slot if available in your Lumion material version. |
| Normal Map | A23DTEX_Normal.png | Load into the Normal Map slot. Adjust intensity and flip direction if needed. |
| Height / Displacement | A23DTEX_Height.png | Load into Displacement or Relief to simulate depth. |
| Roughness Map | A23DTEX_Roughness.png | Connect to Roughness. If the slot is labelled Gloss, invert roughness before use. |
| Metallic Map | A23DTEX_Metalness.png | Use the Metalness / Metallic slot when available. |
| Opacity / Alpha | A23DTEX_Opacity.png | Connect to Opacity or Clip Mask if the material requires transparency. |
5. Displacement and Parallax Mapping
Lumion supports parallax displacement, which creates a depth effect using height data rather than true geometry displacement.
- To enable it, load the A23D Height map into the displacement-related slot.
- Use the intensity slider to adjust the depth effect visually.
6. Finalizing and Testing
Once all textures are applied:
- Preview the material under different lighting conditions.
- Adjust glossiness, normal intensity, or displacement depth for the most realistic result.
