How to use A23D PBR Textures in Twinmotion

This guide explains how to apply and configure A23D PBR texture maps inside Twinmotion using its physically based material system.

Roughness gotcha: Twinmotion's default Roughness slider sits at 100%, which multiplies on top of any imported map. Set Roughness to 50% to use the imported A23D Roughness map at its authored values.

1. Download and Extract the Texture Set

  1. Sign in to your A23D account.
  2. Browse to the texture asset you wish to use.
  3. In the Software dropdown on the asset page, select Twinmotion. A23D automatically delivers the PBR texture set in the format best suited to Twinmotion (JPG maps) - no manual format selection required.
  4. Click Download, save the .zip, and extract it. You'll find:
    • A23DTEX_Albedo.jpg - Base color
    • A23DTEX_Normal.jpg - Tangent-space normal map
    • A23DTEX_Roughness.jpg - Surface roughness
    • A23DTEX_Metalness.jpg - Metallic values
    • A23DTEX_AmbientOcclusion.jpg - Ambient occlusion
    • A23DTEX_Height.jpg - Height / parallax
    • A23DTEX_Opacity.jpg - Opacity (where applicable)
    • A23DTEX_Emissive.jpg - Emission (where applicable)

2. Open the Material Editor

  1. Click the Materials icon at the bottom of the Twinmotion window to open the Materials dock.
  2. Use the Material picker to select a surface in the scene, or click an existing material thumbnail in the Materials dock.
  3. The material properties appear in the right-hand Properties panel.

3. Create or Choose a Material Type

For most A23D PBR textures, Standard / Physically-Based materials work best.

  1. In the Materials dock, click the + icon.
  2. Click the three dots next to + and choose Standard to create a new blank PBR-capable material.
  3. Assign it by dragging the material onto your object in the viewport.

4. Load A23D Texture Maps

Twinmotion PBR materials primarily use Color, Normal, Roughness, and Metallic textures, with optional Ambient Occlusion, Height / Parallax, Opacity, and Emissive maps.

To add each map:

  1. Select your material.
  2. In the Properties panel, expand the relevant section, such as Color > Details or Normal > Details.
  3. Click the texture thumbnail or Texture field, then choose the corresponding A23D map.

Emissive / GlowA23DTEX_Emissive.jpgLoad under Emissive > Details > Texture to make parts of the material self-lit.

Tip: For very small details only, such as scratches or pores, you can skip height and rely on the Normal map alone for better performance.
